Following are excerpts from one of his latest columns: Dear Dr. Meinig: "My children are forever snacking on cookies, coke, candy and other sweets. I try at times to stop the habit, but it seems to always end in a battle. How can I overcome this problem?"

On Better Nutrition
The excessive use of simple sugars in our diet is reflected in the elevation of blood triglyceride levels. The “sweet tooth” is not a natural phenomenon, any more than a proneness to alcohol consumption is. With proper diet, both of these propensities will disappear. Dr. Weston A. Price dramatically illustrated the causal effect of refined carbohydrates on dental caries, dental malocclusions, pyorrhea, arthritis, tuberculosis, mental retardation, and the criminal temperament. Our processed food is an extreme departure from the substances that man was provided through nature, and it is consequently a real source of stress for the body to have to deal with it.

Spring Recipe – Caviar
Discussing primitive and modernized dietaries on Page 265 of Nutrition and Physical Degeneration, Dr. Weston A. Price says, "When it is recognized that in the Sierra the available water is largely that provided to the streams from the melting snows and from rains in the rainy season, it will be realized that these sources of fresh water could not provide the liberal quantity of iodine essential for human growth and development. Freezing dates, snow and ice are considerations in cold climates. You need to plan for winter protection and adjust planting dates. If you have a lake or stream, there may be fog or morning and evening mists. This may preclude planting things susceptible to mildew. Cold air in a low spot which is also damp may rule out peaches which get curly leaf and are tender.
The Organic Method: Spring Success
Now you can plant almost anything but corn, okra, beans, tomato, peppers, lima beans, etc., but even those can be started in early spring in some mild climates such as southern California. They come up as seedling volunteers there, so why not plant them? Sometimes early plantings help avoid certain pests, and since seeds cost so little, comparatively, why not try an early sowing?
Water – What Is It?
We have so thoroughly fouled our environment with poisons and chemicals that there are very few sources of potable water on this planet. Our misguided propensity to saturate our food, our fields and our forests with biocides and artificial chemical plant stimulants has left the intelligent consumer with no alternative but to purify his drinking water.
