Would a more alkaline diet help prevent cancer?
Question
I just finished Dr. Price’s book and I have to say WOW! When he talks about the acid and bases of food with regards to dental care, it is interesting to me that this very topic still has a lot of misinformation around it. I was under the impression myself that one needs to try to maintain a more alkaline diet- especially when looking for cancer prevention. However, it was brought to my attention that plants also contain acid content. Is there any information out there (factual) that could shed some light on this? I guess I have heard that cancer cells can’t survive environments that contain lots of oxygen and alkalinity… but then again this doesn’t account for mineral and vitamin content within the human being.
Answer
You are correct that most people would benefit by eating more alkaline foods, i.e. non-starchy dark green leafy vegetables. Some plants are acidic, i.e. lemons and limes and other citrus. They are acid to the teeth but lemons and limes are said to be alkalizing to the body (assuming you just eat the fruit and don’t add sugar!).
If you test your saliva ph every day and it is 7.0 or higher throughout the day, then you are in a good range. It is true that cancer can’t survive if one’s ph is extremely alkaline (OR acid) – either extreme however is not good.
Wheat is not an essential food so you don’t need to find a replacement for it. Animal protein, animal fat from healthy animals eating what they are supposed to eat are essential to long term health. How to find foods that are healthier cannot be answered simply in an email.
