What and How We Should Eat: Dr. Katayama’s Basic Thinking
On February 22, 2006, Dr. Tsuneo Katayama, DDS (Japan), whom I respect very deeply, passed away at the age of 95. I consider Dr. Katayama's major life work as a dental practitioner/clinician was to put into practice his belief in preventative medicine.
His objective was to give patients all-inclusive and complete medical treatment, as much as possible, so as to prevent any form of later recurrence of the old disease. He tried to find, at the same time during the treatment, the real cause of the trouble which might be deeply hidden within the patient's everyday life. This way, as a physician, Dr. Katayama thought he would be able to give guidance to the suffering people so that they would learn to live a new and improved quality of life, thus avoiding falling back into their old way of life where they would of necessity have to confront the recurrence of the same old disease.
