U.S. To Ban Phthalates in Toys and Childcare Products
Following an overwhelming 424-1 vote in the House to approve a safety reform bill banning the use of 6 phthalates in plastic toys, the senate followed suite with an 89-3 vote. Phthalates are chemicals commonly used in the manufacture of plastic toys and child care products to make parts of them more flexible. Numerous studies have found that exposure to phthalates can cause detrimental health effects, ranging from hormonal disruption to cancer.
