Book Review: The Primal Blueprint: Reprogram Your Genes for Effortless Weight Loss, Vibrant Health, and Boundless Energy

Mark Sisson begins his book, The Primal Blueprint, by challenging many of the main elements of conventional nutritional advice. The prevailing viewpoint - as depicted in the USDA’s now-defunct Food Pyramid (recently replaced by their “My Plate”) - has offered us the hope of better health if we follow certain nutritional guidelines. These guidelines include emphasizing the intake of carbohydrates, mostly in the form of grains, and limiting consumption of saturated fats and animal proteins. Sisson feels that this trend is a serious mistake, and he informs us how this type of diet “drives excess insulin production, fat storage, and heart disease.”
