From the Executive Director – Fall 2020
Dear Members and Friends,
Today, as we reflect on the blessings of the holidays and focus on gratitude and wishes for a healthy and bountiful 2021, we renew our nearly 70-year pledge to provide you with empowering information to lead a life of optimal wellness. In Dr. Price’s view, modern society, in all its advancement, would benefit greatly by embracing the teachings of the indigenous peoples he visited. We’re grounded in reverence for the wisdom of these communities and honored to continue Price’s legacy by extolling the merits of a traditional diet while also providing valuable insights into contemporary health practices and natural medicine.
As I write this, we have a president- and a vice president-elect planning to take the helm of the country. And the election, as divisive as any, has displayed in stark detail the differences of opinions, attitudes, and expectations we hold as Americans. One thing that we can agree upon, thankfully, is that we all want to live healthy lives.
In my personal health practice, regular physical exercise helps keep my body strong and my mind clear. For this issue of the Journal, I was fortunate to speak with Darryl Edwards, the founder of the Primal Play Method and a physical activity, health, and play researcher. I first learned about Darryl’s journey from investment banking technologist to movement coach and author while watching his widely viewed TEDx talk, “Why Working Out Isn’t Working Out.” I highly recommend it!
Darryl was right on the edge of type 2 diabetes when, after receiving a dire warning from his doctor and a handful of prescriptions to treat his symptoms, he decided to experiment with fitness to see if he could reduce his blood pressure. By simply adopting an aerobic program for a month or two, Darryl experienced enough improvement that he tore up his prescriptions and decided to take personal charge of his life. The story of his journey to health is one that I hope influences you to bring play into your fitness practice. Please enjoy our discussion beginning on page 5 and visit PrimalPlay.com for inspiration from Darryl to get moving, indoors or out.
Now is an important time to show you care
The present crisis separates us at a time when we should be together, enjoying nutritious food amongst the comfort of family and friends. It reminds all of us at the Price-Pottenger Nutrition Foundation that our work is more important now than ever. As you plan your holiday gift-giving, please consider how your support, especially in light of our current circumstances, will empower us to help more people change their lives when they need to the most. We depend upon your urgently needed, tax-deductible contribution now to create a healthier future.
Even if, as a devotee of Price-Pottenger, you’re in much better condition to withstand the pandemic than most, the fact is that we are all impacted. My wish for every one of us in 2021 and beyond is that we come together as one community, regardless of our differences, to advance our vital mission to improve lives through health and nutrition.
With warm wishes for a healthy and joyous holiday season,
Steven Schindler
Executive Director
