Electroacupuncture: A True and Legitimate Preventive Medicine
Many are the criticisms that are voiced concerning the failings, of contemporary medical, practice. The essence of these criticisms is centered around the fact that contemporary western medicine is an in-complete approach to today's health care needs. The main thrust of contemporary medical therapeutics leans toward crisis intervention rather than a preventive approach. The second area of concern involves the increasing incidence of chronic degenerative disease in terms of definite curative treatment, let alone the provision of preventive strategies. The third area of concern is the side effects of current medical practice, and the alarming increase in the incidence of iatrogenic disease. Some recent studies have shown that anywhere from 5 to 10% of all hospital admissions occur solely on account of iatrogenic disease. There is supplied to the doctor through the mail almost every day of his practicing life an ever-increasing catalog of adverse drug reactions new drugs introduced by the pharmaceutical companies with "panacea status" which in time become associated with serious side effects. Figures indicating the consumption of drugs in our society, especially analgesic agents and minor tranquillizers are staggering. This, increase in drug, appears to be related to a 'decrease in the nation's health.
