Book Review: Raw Juices Can Save Your Life: An A – Z Guide to Juicing
An Australian-trained physician whose extensive clinical experience includes working with naturopaths – and using therapeutic juicing – to treat chronically ill patients, Dr. Sandra Cabot is a firm believer in the healing powers of juicing. When Cabot’s grandmother was stricken with an incurable auto-immune disease of the kidneys, she was nursed back to health by drinking fresh juices, alternating hourly between imbibing above-the-ground and below-the-ground vegetable varieties. The woman recovered completely and lived for 50 more years.
Cabot’s user-friendly book represents a fresh and welcome improvement over previous (and, I might add, bare-boned) juicing manuals. She dedicates 13 pages to helpful tables detailing the available nutrients, phytochemicals, and healing properties of a vast array of fruits and vegetables, as well as almonds, sprouts, herbs and spices (including parsley, ginger, and horseradish), and wheat grass.
