Commemorating World Health Day 2023
Tomorrow is World Health Day, celebrated on the anniversary of the founding of the World Health Organization in 1948. This year’s theme is one that especially resonates with us at Price-Pottenger, “Health For All.”
Since 1952, Price-Pottenger has been invoking the nutrition and human-and-environmental-health wisdoms of our ancestors to offer guidance in a world of conflicting information. While we’re grateful for other leaders on this journey with us, we’re concerned that, much of today’s health community has been seduced into an overreliance on modern solutions driven by human egoism and corporate profit.
We’re working hard to change this paradigm! As we reported to you recently, our sharing of Price-Pottenger nutrition philosophies and our Interdependence workshops at conferences are helping to bring disparate diet communities together to focus on what we can do collectively. Plus, our board member, Guillermo Ruiz, NMD, will be presenting our first-ever plenary talk, entitled, “Forgotten Discoveries of Health Pioneers: How the Wisdom of Ancestral Nutrition Can Save People and the Planet,” at KetoCon later this month, and I’ll be presenting it at the Food As Medicine conference in May.
Along with our leadership at natural health community conferences, we’re also making substantial shifts at our website by making more and more content available to the public. Whether you’re already an active member of Price-Pottenger or simply a subscriber to our emails, if this work resonates with you, please support our mission today by donating generously to our cause.
We share WHO’s vision for a future where everyone has access to nourishing food, clean water, and quality health care. We believe that by prioritizing sustainable organic agriculture, local food systems, and Indigenous wisdoms, we can promote health, protect the environment, and empower communities. And we’re working hard to bring communities together to pursue these audacious goals.
For World Health Day, I’m pleased to share a few recent Journal of Health and Healing articles related to this year’s World Health Day theme:
- Shifting the Dialogue on Fair Trade, an interview with Dana Geffner
- The Natural Dietitian, by Nicole Redvers, ND
- Embracing Ancestral Food Practices for Optimal Health, an interview with Bill Schindler, PhD
We all have a part to play in achieving “Health For All,” and although our individual roles may seem small, change is possible when we work together! Thank you for your efforts and for your support.
Wishing you good health,
Steven J. Schindler,
Executive Director
