Vitamins and Heart Disease

It is truly remarkable how government experts and medical authorities can officially keep their collective heads buried in the sands of preferred ignorance. Below we offer the latest example of how the ‘consensus of opinion’ leads on the innocent and trusting layman to his slaughter just as the Judas goat leads the sheep to the abattoir axeman.
Seven hundred thousand people a year die of preventable and curable heart disease. The disease caused by vitamin deficiency, directly consequent to the illegal sale of criminally adulterated flour and cereal products that should deliver vitamins to the consumer, instead of cheating him of essential nutrients while delivering unessentials. The makers of bleached flour admitted 47 years ago the criminal nature of their practice of bleaching with oxidizing agents that destroy vitamins and other nutritional values of fresh wheat.1 It is strange that at the same time the Medical authorities are so obtuse to the benefits of the lost vitamins that we are cheated out of in wheat flour, they fall so easily for the arguments in favor of water fluoridation, which at best is trying to correct nutritional deficiency reactions with a vicious poison. (A poison proven dangerous in one-fifteenth the concentration recommended for water medication, according to unquestioned tests.)2 Dr. Harold Hawkins proved years ago that unless malnutrition is present, immunity to dental caries is inevitable.3
The vitamin fractions that are needed to protect the heart are B4, the C complex, the G complex, and the E complex. The latter contains one factor that has the identical effect of nitroglycerine (E2), and another (Vitamin F) that relieves the muscular weakness of deficiency, shown by the absence of the second sound when the stethoscope is placed over the heart apex.
Whether or not these reactions occur is simple to determine by making phonocardiographic recordings of the heart, sounds on any human subject, or on horses, dogs, or monkeys. In most cases where arrhythmias, fibrillation, extra systoles or heart block is present in any degree the use of natural concentrates of wheat germ will improve the sound pattern in a few minutes. If the apical second sound is weak or absent, in the vast majority of cases a little of the F fraction of the E complex will eliminate the aberration inside of five minutes.
Where the patient has seizures of angina pectoris the E2 fraction of the E complex (the phospholipid component) will promote relief more satisfactorily than the drug substitute for this food, nitroglycerine.
These matters are not subject to any argument whatever. Tests can be made in any group of people and 9 out of 10 will be found to be radically deficient, typical victims of bleached flour.
The Vitamin Products Company will supply both the Endocardiograph and the vitamins for such tests on a moment’s notice.
The funny part of this picture is the fact that the same people, who for fifty years or so have encouraged for their own private profit the criminal adulteration of flour by bleaching, are now promoting the wide use of fluorine in drinking water–no less criminal adulteration–to offset the terrific accumulated tendency to tooth decay that flour refining and bleaching has unquestionably brought about. (If you question this statement, read pp. 688 and 689 in The Vitamins in Medicine by Bicknell and Prescott. Reprint free on request from the Lee Foundation for Nutritional Research.)
It is still funnier to see the August American Dental Association and the American Medical Association using all their combined political influence to force these criminal practices into general acceptance with complete disregard of all moral principles and constitutional rights of the unsuspecting victims. We see such remarkable spectacles as the Dean of a large Dental College publicly spouting off at a convention of dentists: ‘There is no scientific proof that dental caries can result from malnutrition.’4
Only a moron needs proof that something can be made out of nothing. If food minerals are deficient, as Hawkins long ago demonstrated, the teeth will be deficient. Not even the lactogenic germ is necessary for simple erosion will rob the teeth of minerals to build bone.
It is interesting to see how all unprincipled and incompetent (mentally and morally) professional politicians leap to the assistance of the racketeers who seem so powerful in their wire pulling. Most of these polítical opportunists fail to realize how an aroused public can react once they find out how they have been duped, robbed, poisoned and starved by crooks who admit their criminal intent– admitted almost fifty years ago. Crooks that in the flush of their success in pulling the wool over the eyes of the public, professions, and law enforcement officers have the frightful gall to say that their opponents, like skunks, are not to be argued with but exterminated. Anyone who criticizes white flour products as a source of disease is a ‘predatory quack’ to be ‘exposed’ (Food, Drug and Cosmetic Journal, Oct. 1951, p. 788). Crooks that can only continue their criminal destruction of public health by corrupting the Federal Food and Drug Administration and the Federal Trade Commission, who are paid to protect the public, but are now, according to Dr. Harvey W. Wiley, ‘protecting the adulteration of foods and drugs.’5
The Federal Trade Commission says that the synthetic vitamins put into flour to facilitate its sale after the natural ones are destroyed are exactly equal to the original natural ones taken out in processing or destroyed by bleach, and they will prosecute anyone who ventures to call! attention to the inferiority of the synthetic imitations in sales literature for natural foods. But the U. S. Army in their official Nutrition Manual for 1949 says this:
‘Wherever possible, the nutrients required should be obtained from natural foods rather than synthetic preparations. This is particularly true of the vitamins. Synthetic vitamin concentrates, tablets and pills may not contain all of the known nutrients, either as such or in optimal proportion. Furthermore, they obviously may not contain lesser known or unknown nutrients which are, however, provided by natural foods.’
This manual also properly appraises the commonly encountered deficiency states as follows:
‘The fact that vitamin deficiency diseases do occur in this country, however, indicates that dietaries are not always adequate. These deficiencies occur as a result of poor food habits, improper selection of foods, lack of proper funds, or disturbed metabolism due to other causes. More widespread and therefore of the greatest importance are the subclinical deficiencies resulting from a suboptimal intake of vitamins. Here the symptoms are vague and ill defined, and it requires considerable skill to recognize and diagnose such conditions, Whereas, a severe vitamin deficiency is incapacitating, the subclinical deficiencies may result only in fatigue, inefficiency, mala is e and discontentment.’
This Army Manual might have gone on further and told us how these ‘subclinical deficiencies’ may not attract any attention until so much damage has been done as to cause sudden death by heart failure. We often call attention to the 28 test animals put on a diet lacking the same important vitamin for the heart–the E complex–where the effect of one year of the equivalent of white bread feeding caused the sudden death from heart seizures of 13 of these animals. Death before any warning illness, loss of weight or other signs were apparent.6
A similar investigation on the nutritional value of skimmed milk, plus vegetable oil is in progress. The animals live only a few months. Such a diet CANNOT SUPPORT LIFE.
Now look at the latest thing in baby foods. You will find skimmed condensed milk plus cheap vegetable oíl. Why take out the Butter and replace with Oleo?? To cut the Wholesale Price, my dear Sir. To take the business away from the Maker of an HONEST FOOD,
The Consumer pays the Same Price until some retailer decides to get go and try to get more business by ‘cut-throating.’
Even the baby food made by our largest dairy combine is so adulterated. WHY? Because they must meet the competitive price, or lose the business. What is wrong here? Simply that the Food and Drug Administration is asleep at the switch. In any game the rules must be enforced by an impartíal umpire, or crookedness springs up, So they take out the Butter Fat and sell it to the Government at a high price, and cheat the baby of its rightful vitamins. As good butter is our most important source of vitamin E, the little fellow begins to develop heart and muscle degeneration on the bottle.
The National Dairy Council says good butter has 1/10th as much vitamin E as Wheat Germ Oil. It is our best source of vitamin F, also an important heart vitamin, The A.M.A. and the Food and Drug Administration try to tell you that there is no such vitamin as F, but again that is a deliberate misrepresentation, a bald-faced líe in plain language, to keep you in ignorance of its importance. Look up the section in the 1949 Annual Review of Biochemistry on this subject. There it is stated that a deficiency of F is suspected to predispose to cancer. Or look at the latest issue of the International Review of Vitamin Research (Berne. Switzerland), Vol. XXV, No. 1 and see the two articles on Vitamin F–pp. 62 and 86. Both of these publications are officially using the term Vitamin F. and anyone who says it does not exist is deliberately keeping his head in a sand pile. By denying its existence, these foul crooks are putting off the day of reckoning when its widespread deficiency can be recognized and corrected. Heart disease and arthritis in particular. Go back to Dr. Weston Price’s book, Nutrition and Physical Degeneration, page 273, and read how the crippled and pain-wracked little boy who was told his fate was death by ignorant doctors, and who recovered perfect health on Butter Containing Vitamin F that Dr. Price obtained from Deaf Smith County, Texas. (Dr. Price called vitamin F at that time the ‘X’ factor of butter, since identified as a member of the F complex.)
Modern politics has put half our production of butter, this finest of food fats, into storage where it rots until sold for soap grease, while full-page advertisements in our home papers sells us fools counterfeit butter at three times what it is worth as soap stock.
A basic principle often forgotten:
‘There is well-controlled experimental evidence that of vitamins A and G increased liberality of intake continues to yield increased nutritional well-being up to at least four times the amount demonstrably needed; and there are clinical indications that something similar may be true itf the case of vitamin C.’ Page 521 of Chemistry of Food and Nutrition. 5th edition, H. C. Sherman, Macmillan, 1937.
‘Increased food calories without regard to increased vitamin intake results in shortening of the life period of test animals. Increasing the calories with attendant increase of vitamins and minerals by the use of natural foods resulted in increased life span.’ H.C. Sherman, Food and Health, page 200, Macmillan, 1936.
By this reasoning, we should NEVER eat white bread, candy or soft drinks, because they add to our calories without supplying a quota of vitamins.
Let us Beware of Propaganda. Let us Beware of Mass Medication to cure our Deficiency Diseases. Let us Beware of Crooks on the Public Payrolls who conspire to destroy our health for their own selfish ends. The man who tells the truth can prove it.
The man who is trying to mislead you cannot cite the FACTS. He must refer to OPINIONS. Have you noticed how only OPINIONS are cited to support water Fluoridation? How its opposers, who have nothing to gain (and a lot to lose), are so viciously vilified?
