Serotonin Levels and Cravings

[“Health Vectors”] Many people crave sweet and starchy foods during dark winter days because of depressed levels of the brain chemical serotonin. The serotonin level can be brought up again by exposure to bright light. Researchers advise those troubled by cravings for carbohydrates to go outside for 10 to 30 minutes on sunny winter days, if it is not too cold. The morning is the most effective time.
