Kidney stones affect one in eleven North Americans, a major increase over the one in twenty who had this condition in 1994.  About one in seven men and one in fifteen women will be diagnosed with kidney stones during their lifetime.  The incidence is rising and the age of onset is decreasing.[1]  This increase in the incidence of kidney stones indicates that lifestyle is involved in their development.  Modern diets are a likely cause, in part because certain foods and overly processed “nonfoods” can contribute to formation of stones.[2,3]  Excess weight and obesity are definite contributors.[...
