German market salvage food waste recycle products organic vegetable

A recently opened supermarket in Germany has an unusual business model: it sells only food that would be considered “waste” by traditional standards. The store, located in the city of Cologne, is the third of its kind in the European Union and the first in Germany. Products sold run the gamut from organic vegetables that have odd shapes or sizes to packaged goods that are past their labeled expiration dates but still usable.
