A recent study from Perth, Australia, found a significant association between maternal vitamin D insufficiency during pregnancy and language impairment in offspring. Researchers from the Telethon Institute for Child Health Research measured vitamin D levels of 743 pregnant Caucasian women and then assessed their children's language and behavioral/emotional development over time. While no link was found between maternal vitamin D levels and behavioral/emotional problems, children whose mothers ranked in the lowest quartile of vitamin D levels were almost twice as likely to experience...
