A new, large-scale study on women in Finland, published in the journal Neurology, supports the view that vitamin D status is a risk factor in the development of multiple sclerosis (MS). Although previous studies have shown similar findings for both men and women, this was by far the largest longitudinal study to date to assess this link. Using data from the Finnish Maternity Cohort, which includes over 800,000 pregnant women who gave blood samples for routine prenatal testing since 1983, researchers identified 1,092 women who had subsequently been diagnosed with MS and 2,123 matched controls...
