We Must Replant the Earth to Survive
In recent years natural catastrophes have been increasing in numbers and severity. Droughts, dust storms, floods, high-winds, tornadoes, hail, blizzards, record-breaking heat, and cold growing seasons - all are taking a high toll in lives and property losses. Most dangerous is the loss of crops. The world food supply in 1979 dropped 3 1/2% per person largely due to drought in Russia and India. The 1980 crop year started with a cold dry spring in Russia and in some areas of our northern tier of states. Now an unprecedented heat and drought have hit a number of southern states and as far north as the corn belt. Crops in the Dakotas and north in Canada are a near total loss. The world's supply of food per person will certainly decrease substantially in 1980. We are moving rapidly toward world famine.
