These Green Things: Catherine Sneed and the San Francisco Garden Project
Catherine Sneed is director of The Garden Project, a horticultural program for the San Francisco County Jail where, in an eight-acre garden, prisoners grow produce. Weekly, the garden's organic produce is delivered to projects that supply food to seniors, homeless people, and AIDS victims. Above all, this organic, chemical-free garden is a living metaphor for the healthy lives the jail gardeners are trying to create. This is the story of the San Francisco County Jail Garden and The Garden Project, told in the words of their founder and guiding spirit, based on talks she gave at the Aspen Design Conference and at Harvard College.
