Scientific controversy seems a fixture in societies probing scientific questions - almost from the dawn of empirical discovery. When those embroiled in controversy are equal in prestige and power, reason is supposed to win out but when established authority (governmental, corporate, academic, religious) creates unequal weight, rejecting, refuting or even condemning new ideas and innovations which are not part of accepted values, those ideas and innovations may get unfairly blocked, notwithstanding the truth they may hold.
