Thanksgiving Should Remind Us to Protect the Source of Our Food

In the United States thoughts and planning for Thanksgiving Day are largely centered on the bounteous feasting and taking satisfaction in the veritable cornucopia of edibles with which we have been provided. It is most urgent, however, yea, critical to our very survival, that we realize that our food supply is not guaranteed to be permanent. Mankind is utterly dependent upon food production and we must learn to use and protect the soil with a keen sense of stewardship. When we eliminate productive land from tillage by giving it a terminal crop of asphalt or concrete or by allowing it to become eroded wasteland, we are depriving future generations of their sustenance.
