Soy Protein Reducing Coronary Heart Disease
Foods containing at least 6.25 grams of soy protein per serving may now carry labels explaining the “benefits of soy protein in reducing the risk of coronary heart disease (CHD),” according to a new ruling from the Food and Drug Administration. The FDA said it has determined that making soy protein part of a low saturated fat, low cholesterol diet can reduce the risk of CHD because studies have shown that consuming 25 grams of soy protein per day can lower total blood cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol.
