Cicada Stir Fry
[Note: This recipe accompanied the article “Nutritious, Tasty Cicadas” in the Winter 1996 PPNF Journal of Health and Healing (Volume 20 Number 4)]
Ingredients
- 2 dozen medium to large cicadas, wings removed
- 2 tablespoons sesame oil
- 1 garlic clove, chopped
- 1 teaspoon tamari or soy sauce
- ½ teaspoon chili oil (optional)
- 1 tablespoon sweet sherry
- Assorted fresh chopped vegetables (snow peas, broccoli, bok choy, spring onions, carrots, water chestnuts, etc.)
Directions
Heat sesame oil in very hot wok, add garlic, ginger and then veggies.
Cook very hot for a few minutes.
Add the cicadas and remaining ingredients.
Cook a few more minutes, gently stirring.
Serve on brown rice.
