Linking School-Based Diet with Behavior Disorders
The link between diet and behavior derives from the relationship between nutrition and body function. A diet deficient in nutrients results in a variety of abnormally functioning systems which can give rise to deviant behaviors. Moreover, nutritional disorders caused by trace metal, vitamin, mineral and enzyme deficits are more likely to occur in the context of poverty, environmental deprivation, and disadvantaged social conditions. All these conditions adversely affect behavior and development and show up in the classroom as attention deficit disorders, antisocial behavior, and poor school performance.
