In The News, Winter 2017: Link Is Found Between Gut Microbes and Parkinson’s Disease

Researchers have discovered a biological link between intestinal bacteria and Parkinson’s disease, a neurodegenerative condition that affects over a million people in the US alone. A recent study published in the journal Cell found that gut bacteria regulate movement disorders in mice and suggested a mechanism by which changes in the microbiome may affect risk of Parkinson’s disease in humans.
