In the News, Summer 2017: REM Sleep May Help Predict Dementia Risk

People who get insufficient REM sleep may face increased risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia, according to a recent study published online in the journal Neurology. Subjects who developed dementia during the course of the study spent only 17 percent of their sleep time in the REM stage, compared to 20 percent for those without neurodegenerative brain disease.
