In The News, Fall 2009: San Francisco Mayor’s Health Mandates

San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom is hoping to change the way people in his city eat. “We have an eating and drinking problem in the United States of America. It’s impacting our health, and it’s impacting our economy,” he said.
The Mayor spoke at an ex-junkyard-turned-farm in West Oakland that now produces 2,000 pounds of food every year. His recently issued executive directive requires all city departments to audit any unused land that could be turned into neighborhood farms and community agriculture projects.
