In The News, Fall 2014: Aerobic Fitness Improves White Matter in Children’s Brains
Aerobically fit children have more compact and fibrous brain white matter than less-fit children, a new study from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champagne has found. White matter is composed mainly of nerve fiber tracts that transmit signals from one area of the brain to another. Tracts that are more compact and fibrous are linked with faster, more efficient nerve activity.
