From Food to Mood: What Psychodietetics Is All About
"Psychodietetics" is the concept that many of our psychological problems originally stem from nutritional deficiencies. It further espouses that by proper diet and nutrition many emotional disturbances can be prevented, treated, and cured. Though the practice is designed to help prevent or even cure biological imbalances that result in emotional ills, psychodietetics cannot "fix" behaviors that resulted because of chronic biological distortions; in such cases psychodietetics must be used in tandem with psychiatric care to address both the biological and behavioral problems. However, in many cases, dietary change alone has shown to correct such conditions as schizophrenia, alcoholism, drug, dependency, psychoses, depression, and other serious illnesses. Though psychodietetics has been presented to many medical communities, it has not been received with much enthusiasm. In general, medical schools do not have nutrition curricula and, as a result, are disinterested in dietary application as medicine. And so, this idea must be presented to the public for dissemination and support.
Included in the full article is a brief list of nutritional deficiencies and their corresponding behavioral disorders. Also included is a questionnaire to determine if you may have a nutritional imbalance resulting in emotional instability.
