Eat for Your Genes: Our Dietary Needs for DNA and RNA Building Blocks
Our bodies need traditionally-prepared whole foods to make genes that actually function optimally to promote and maintain health. Nucleotides provide the molecular building blocks for our genes (DNA) and protein synthesis machinery (RNA) and play key roles in enabling and/ or regulating almost all cellular activities. Although the body can make its own nucleotides, we need a dietary supply to keep up with the demands of rapidly growing or dividing cells. The best sources among "normal" foods include meats (especially organ meats), seafood, and properly-prepared legumes and grains, all of which were prominently featured in the traditional, health-promoting diets identified by Dr. Weston A. Price.
