Cytotoxic Testing
There is considerable controversy over the use of the Cytotoxic Test in determining food allergy. Insurance companies are balking at making payments. The American Academy of Allergy and the American Medical Association have sponsored demonstration tests designed in such a way to assure failure; then, on the basis of the poor results, concluded that the Cytotoxic Test is not useful. Meanwhile, commercial laboratories are offering the test and many people, including celebrities, are having good results. These celebrities are popularizing their favorable experiences in the press and on the Merv Griffin Show. Unfortunately, this type of lay reporting is condemned by the academic community as "anecdotal" and "not scientific."
