Carotene and the Family Doctor
The Physicians' Health Study (PHS-March 1982), financed by the National Institute of Health and conducted by a Harvard Medical School research group to study the effects of Beta-carotene on cancer as part of a study, suggests some ethical and scientific questions by a practitioner of family medicine.
The PHS will include thousands of test subjects, many years and much money. Will this study add significant information about the relationships between B-carotene and human cancers that is not already available?
