Manuscript Submission Guidelines
Thank you for your interest in submitting an article to the Journal of Health and Healing. We welcome unsolicited manuscripts based on clinical experience or solid research that focus on the use of diet, nutrition, and healthy lifestyle practices in preventing and treating disease or achieving optimal health.
Examples of relevant topics include: prenatal nutrition, holistic dentistry, natural treatment of degenerative disease, anti-inflammatory foods and supplements, environmental influences on health, and proper sleep and exercise regimens.
Manuscript Requirements
Feature articles run from 3500 to 4500 words (not including references).
Articles must be submitted electronically as Microsoft Word documents or Rich Text Format (RTF) files. Pages should be numbered.
Include a photo (headshot) of yourself. Photos or graphics pertinent to your topic may also be submitted, if you are the creator of such images or have written permission from the creator or copyright holder.
Photos and graphics must be high resolution (300 DPI minimum at 4 X 6 inches) and sent in TIFF or JPEG format. If you insert your images into a Microsoft Word document, you must also attach them to your submission as individual files.
Provide a brief biographical write-up of yourself, including any contact information you would like published.
References must be provided for statistics, direct quotations, and any assertions that might be questionable and are not supported by your own clinical experience.
If you cite any reference whose conclusion is in opposition to the premise of your article, you must acknowledge that fact in the article text.
Unpublished articles are preferred; if your article has been previously published, let us know where and when it has appeared.
All articles must be thoroughly fact checked and proofread prior to submission.
Submission and Selection Process
- We recommend sending us a letter of inquiry in advance, describing your proposed article. Outlines are appreciated but not required. We will respond within three weeks, indicating our interest in seeing the full article
- Email letters of inquiry and article submissions to: journal@price-pottenger.org
- Please note that the submission of an article (even if we have indicated interest) does not ensure that it will be accepted for publication.
- We may request additional information or limited rewriting before an article is accepted for publication.
- Once your article is accepted for publication, it will be provisionally scheduled for an upcoming issue. Occasionally, articles have to be rescheduled for a subsequent issue.
- We may edit articles, as necessary, for grammatical or stylistic purposes, to provide clarification, or to meet space constraints. Changes will be sent to you for approval prior to printing.
- We reserve the right to change the titles of articles without author approval.
- As a nonprofit foundation, we gratefully accept the donation of articles. If payment is agreed upon, it will be made upon publication of the issue in which the article appears and will be based on the final word count of the article as printed (not including references or biographical note). In no case will the word count for payment exceed the number of words submitted.
Notes on Style
The tone of the Journal of Health and Healing is between that of a magazine and that of a professional peer-reviewed journal. Our readers are a mix of health professionals and laypeople, but virtually all of them have some knowledge of nutrition and complementary medicine. Here are a few guidelines that will help you tailor your writing to our publication:
- Be sure that your article is cohesive. Keep it focused on your topic and avoid tangents.
- Emphasize practical solutions that can empower your audience.
- Explain any technical or medical terms that might not be familiar to general readers.
- When stating “research indicates” or “studies show,” provide appropriate reference citations.
- Reproduce direct quotations from other authors verbatim. If omitting words, use ellipses. Don’t paraphrase inside quotation marks. Provide page numbers for book quotations.
